Sub-collection: Flag CenterThe 46 Star United states Flag was used between 1908 and 1912. After the Spanish-American War their was a patriotic outpouring which casued an increace in flag sales not seen since the U.S. Centennial in 1876. After 1896 flag manufacturers began to sell kits, containing a flag, pole and bracket for home use. This flag is an early example of a kit flag, sewn for and sold to the mass market & home use. It is made from an inexpensive economy cotton sheeting.
This type of flag marked the beginning of the "home flag" indurtry which would grow from these humble beginnings into a multi-million dollar industry in the United States.
