Great example of a WWII U.S. Navy ensign made at the flag shop at Mare Island, Vallejo, California in Oct. 1942.
MARKINGS ON THE REVERSE HOIST; "U.S. ENSIGN #7 MARE ISLAND OCT. 1942".
Ensign is staines with grey navy paint and it is likely that this ensign was never issued, retained and then sold as surplus.
