U.S. 34 Star Parade Flag.
This small cotton 34 star flag is still attached to its staff. Small flags like this would have been seen being carried at American Civil War rallies and parades in all regions of the North. This flag was discovered on a farm in rural Indiana near the city of Muncie.
Dating between 1861 and 1863, the 34 star flag was created upon the admission of Kansas to the Union, became official on the 4th of July, 1861, and was doubtless used by Hoosiers as they sent troops of to the war or celebrated Union Victories.
Provenance: Acquired at an Internet Auction 1999.
