Action Theatre Guild of Blerichen Flag.

Sub-collection: German

Action Theatre Guild of Blerichen Flag, 1924 - 1927.
This small, richly embroidered flag was used by the Northrein-Westphalian Action Theater Guild. Dating back to the inter-war period, this exquisite flag is double faced with a different design on each side.

The front has a dark blue background. Within a wreath, two hands can be seen extended from black sleeves, cuffed, grasping in a handclasp, superimposed upon a rising sun. "Theater Verein Einigkeit" is written above and below "Blerichen" with the dates 1924-1927. In each corner is ornamental gold stitching.

The reverse side is dark green, within a wreath there is a stylized Greek temple, inside of which are two human figures and an eternal flame. Above, "Was auf der Bühne Mann der zeigt" is wrotten and below, "Im Leben es dir zum Guten gericht." This roughly translates to: "What the man on the stage shows, in life, will serve you well." In each corner is ornamental gold stitching.

Little is known of this group or this flag. It was brought to upstate New York, likley as a WWI Dough Boy Bring-Back.

Provenance: Acquired by the Louise Veninga Collection at Internet Auction.
