Unofficial 39 Star U.S. Flag.
The field of this is flag is clamp dyed and consists of thirteen alternating, horizontal, red and white stripes, commencing and ending with red. Also clamp dyed into the cotton field but in the upper, hoist corner is a dark blue canton, (???) inches wide on the fly by (???) inches high on the hoist. Imprinted on each side of the canton are thirty-nine (39) white, 5-pointed stars, each (???) across their points, and set in six horizontal rows: 6-7-7-6-7-6. The hoist edge was probably tacked to a short staff. Date: 1877-1889.

Superior Court Judge John T. Ball, of Santa Clara County, California, acquired this flag.
