Map of the Republic of Texas 1846.
This small engraved map is one of the most detailed ever published of the Republic of Texas in 1846. Entitled, Map of Texas and Part of Mexico, it portrays the claimed boundaries of the new nation. It was printed on clay-coated paper and Published by T. & E. H. Ensign in New York.
It features a decorative border and provides extreme detail, identifying rivers, mountains, oceans, gulfs, U.S. and Mexican states, cities, towns, forts, exploration routes, Indian tribes and their census, and for mariners, the depths of the Gulf of Mexico along underwater passes near shore are indicated.
The Republic of Texas was an independent Republic in North America from 1836 until 1846 when it was annexed by the United States.
