Fusilier Regiment von Gersdorff (Kurhessisches) Nr. 80 Veteran Color.
Little is know about the history of this flag, it is likely that it is a bring back souvenir by an American Soldier after Allied forces took over Frankfurt. American Troops arrived at Frankfurt end of March 1945 and captured it within three days. Flags have been stolen from associations (mostly without having any clue about the denotation of the flag), in nearly every city and village, which was captured by the Americans.
Eagles and Crown on the reverse are definitely Prussian. The writing on the obverse: "Verein ehem. 80er" shows, that it is a Reservist-Comradship/Reservist Association (Reservistenkameradschaft) flag. The red symbol on blue ground documents, that it is a flag of the Association of Former Members of Prussian - Regiment Gersdorff (Kurhessisches) number 80. The Fusilier Regiment number 80 was last (until 1918) positioned in Wiesbaden und Bad Homburg.
The honorary Colonel of the regiment was Margarethe Landgräfin von Hessen. She was the sister of Kaiser Wilhelm II and the daughter of Fredrich III. She was the wife of Landgraph Fredrich Karl of Hessen.
