This noteworthy variant WWI guidon does not conform to the 1886 guidon specifications in that it is not swallow-tailed and has a reverse hoist. It was probably acquired locally and used to indicate a HQ. The hoist was probably reversed so that the guidon read correctly as you approached the HQ building.
