Bulgarian State Flag, 1971-1990.
White, green red tricolor with the Bulgarian communist arms centered in the upper white stripe, offset towards the hoist. The arms are: golden lion rampant tongued red in blue oval shield bordered golden, surrounded with wheat. Beneath the lion are a white cogwheel, a red band with yellow dates 681 - 1944 and a tricolor band on both sides. As well as a Yellow bordered red star over it. The dates represent a remarkable era in Bulgarian history. In 681 Bulgarians settled the region, and in 1944 Bulgaria was freed from Nazism. The flag without arms was (and still is) used on civil vessels.

According to W. Smith this flag was publicly lifted on May 21, 1971. It was flown from the main headquarters building of the Bulcacoop Company in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The proportions are 3:5, and it was used by government agencies on land and sea and as well as by the army on land. The use of the flag was abandoned with the end of socialism (1990), when the socialist arms were removed.
