Frontier Forces Ensign of the USSR, 1950-1992.
The Frontier Forces or Border Guards Ensign of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was for vessels that were assigned to protect the borders of the USSR. The green field was used on flags and ensigns of the internal border security forces and these were combined with the naval ensign of the USSR. Unlike the Soviet Navy that projected the power of the USSR abroad, the frontier fleets patrolled the borders and prevented flights from the USSR by sea.

This was part of the panoply of maritime flags used by the Soviet Union. Most were based on the naval ensign, which this flag uses as a canton.
