US // Naval Academy Sailing Squadron

Sub-collection: U.S. Naval

The Naval Academy Sailing Squadron is part of U.S. Naval Sailing Association. The purpose of the U.S. Naval Sailing Association is to support sail training and recreational sailing for members of all the armed forces. It provides volunteer instructors and conducts qualification tests. Although the USNSA is an independent non-profit organization, it is officially recognized in an advisory and assistance capacity by the Chief of Naval Personnel. Most member clubs are supported by non-appropriated morale, welfare, and recreation funds.

Purchased by Ben Zaricor at Annapolis after being granted permission by an Admiral who was present, circa 1997.
After it was purchased the Admiral and Ben Zaricor walked together across the Naval Academy campus discussing flag usage on ships and their expected duration for utilitarian use which was around 6 to 9 months.
