ZFC1177

United States// 48 stars/ early pattern

Sub-collection: U.S. 48 Star Flags

This is one of the very earliest 48 star flags because of its off set pattern of rows of stars. The 48 star flag was offical 1912 but the block pattern of the star pattern was not standardized until after the first year of the flag's recognition. Therefore some flags continued to follow a practice of off set rows until the offical Flag Act of 1912.

It is very rare to find surviving flags of such a small size with the original stick.

See ZFC1181,1188 and 1189 as companion flags to this flag.
