German Democratic Republic // state flag

Sub-collection: Wedel Family

This was the state flag of the GDR ("East Germany") from 1959 until 1990 when the country was absorbed by West Germany (the German Federal Republic). The long "hanging flag" style is typical of German flags. Note that the coat of arms has been turned to look right when the flag is hung vertically. See also item ZFC1289.

Flag was given (loaned) to Ben Zaricor in 1997 by Martin Wedel a family friend and business associate. There is a document in "More Documents" for the provenance by Martin Wedel.
