ZFC1305

Imperial Japanese War Flag - 1870 to 194

Sub-collection: Captured Flags

ZFC1305 - Imperial Japanese War Flag - 1870 to 1945. Small silk flags like this were sometimes used as Hinomaru Yosegaki or a "Good Luck Flag". Often purchased by relatives and friends, they were generally kept on a soldier's person.

Little is known about the history of this Japanese flag. Presumably, it was acquired as a GI bringback. Its silk material, overall construction and reinforcing corner patches are consistent with flags made in Japan prior to, and during WWII period.

The "Rising Sun" centered designates use by the Imperial Army.
