National Flag of the Republic of China.
This small cotton flag is typical of flags used in China by European and American missionaries in their schools in pre-war China. After the suppression of the Chinese Boxers in 1900, the establishment of mission schools in China resumed. These mission schools became the foundation of the modern Chinese educational system and helped introduce Western teaching methods into China, including the use of classroom flags. They also introduced Western values, including the education of young women.
This flag, introduced by the Kuomintang Party in 1914, became the principal national flag in 1928. This cotton example is thought to date from before the Second World War. The missionary attribution is verbatim and its history is not researched as yet.
