United States // 48 Star Flag /

Catalog description
Improtant and massive 48-Star American Flag, Measuring Approximately 29 x 18, For Possible Navy Battleships, Very Fine.

This amazing, huge 48-Star flag is dated for use between February 14, 1912 with the admission of the State of Arizona, and 1959 (47 years), prior to the admission of Alaska. The 48 massive hand-sewn stars, which each measure 13 wide, are placed upon heavy sewn cloth and there are signs of definite use. This flag was said to have been recovered from the Navy docks in San Diego two decades ago, as it was deaccessioned. The size and location of this flag suggests that it could have only been flown on the most massive of ships, such as a Battleship. There are some small tears at the edge and signs of modest wear from use and is sold as is as such. This flag would be wonderful for display carried in a parade or at a football game or some other such patriotic function. To have a quality, heavy duty American flag of this size manufactured today would likely cost several thousand dollars.
