Germany, 3rd Reich Schutzstaffel "Protective Echelon" (SS) Befehlshaber, "Territorial Commander" automobile flag. Flags like this were used between 1942 and 1945 to identify a vehicle bearing a general officer of the Waffen SS.
The SS Sig Runes design was created in 1931 when Walter Heck, a Sturmfuhrer in the SS, drew two Sig Runes side by side and noticed the similarity to the initials of the SS. For 2 Reichsmarks, Heck sold the rights to the SS and it quickly became one of the most commonly used forms of SS insignia.
