The flag for the Special Region of Macao was adopted a year before to the end of Portuguese rule and its reintegration into China in1999.
The flag is green with a stylized white lotus above a stylized bridge and water and beneath an arc of five golden yellow stars. Above the lotus are one large and four smaller as on the flag of China.
