Wilmington, Delaware, October 2, 2010 to January 2, 2011. Winterthur presents Betsy Ross: The Life Behind the Legend. Curated by Prof. Marla Miller of the University of Massachusetts and WinterthurÂ’s Linda Eaton & Katie Knowles, the exhibition explores Betsy Ross as wife, mother, upholsteress and flag-maker. The exhibition displayed some of the only surviving personal belongings of Betsy Ross, and some of the most significant flags from American History: George WashingtonÂ’s Commander-in-Chief Standard; the 1775 standard of the Philadelphia Light Horse; the 1778 color of the 2nd Continental Dragoons & the 1780 regimental & divisional colors of the 3rd Virginia Regiment captured by Colonel Banastre Tarleton; an 1803-1812, 17 star Indian Treaty Presentation flag and an original 1818, 20 star United States flag from the Zaricor Flag Collection (ZFC0421).
