76. Star Spangled Banner Flag House & Museum - 20th Century Flags



As Baltimore�s oldest museum the Star Spangled Banner Flag House (SSBFH) became a logical repository for flags and included in their collection were many flags from the early 20th Century. The 46 star U.S. flag was used from 1908 to 1912 and represented the statehood of Oklahoma. The flags in this Grouping were all used in the final halcyon days of what Mark Twain called the Gilded Age.

All of the flags in this Grouping bear a rectilinear star field, and represent the passage of unusual, and fanciful star patterns from routine use, and the flag took on an appearance more familiar to modern viewers. � Included here is a gambit of flags from economical printed flags to sewn large institutional flags.

The Grouping closes with an early 48 star U.S. flag with staggered rows of stars made in 1903/04 in anticipation of statehood for New Mexico and Arizona.
