ZFC2733 - Frontispiece of Flags of the Army of the United States carried During the War of Rebellion, 1887 - the landmark work on Civil War flags. This volume identifies the flags used by the Union Army during the Civil War. It was written, illustrated and assembled under direction of the US Army's Quartermaster General in 1887 with a copyright date of 1888, it contains 89 total prints, including two shown prior to the title page.
ZFC2574 - U.S. 35 Star Infantry National Color, Double Ring Philadelphia Oval, 1863 - 1865. This flag is outstanding example of a "Philadelphia Oval" National Color as provided to the Philadelphia Clothing Depot under contract by contractors Horstmann Brothers & Co.; William F, Scheible and by former Horstmann employees Evans and Hassall.
ZFC0407 - 18th US Infantry Regimental Color, 1863-1865. This was the 18th U.S. Regular Infantry's regimental color in the period from 1865 through 1866. After the War, the 18th was sent West to garrison the Bozeman Trail through Wyoming Territory. It garrisoned Fort Phil Kearny in 1866 during the events leading to the Fetterman Massacre. When Fort Phil Kearny was abandoned, the adjutant of the 18th Infantry took this flag with him and it eventually passed to his descendants.
ZFC0460 - 35 Star U.S. National Color - New York Quartermaster Depot, 1863-1865. This color bears the distinctive square canton seen on New York Depot national colors. It has been suggested that the NY Quartermaster depot was instrumental in utilizing the square canton on national colors.
ZFC0406 - Regimental flag of the 2nd Philadelphia Coal Exchange Regiment. U.S. Volunteer Infantry, 1863. This flag is a Regimental Color from the Philadelphia Department of Pattern. Made especially by Evans & Hassell for the 2nd Philadelphia Coal Exchange Regiment, 51st Pennsylvania Militia by its sponsors, of the Philadelphia Coal Exchange.
ZFC0402 - U.S. 35 Stars Artillery National Color - Oval pattern National Color, 1863-1865. The oral tradition associated with this flag is that it was used during the American Civil war by Major Wilbur Fiske Goodspeed, Chief of Artillery for the 4th Army Corps of the US Army of the Cumberland. Major Goodspeed had formerly been Captain of Cotters Battery A, 1st Ohio Light Artillery.

present an example of each of the major types of depot contractor regulation flags and colors carried by Union forces at the basic unit level.
